Hearing Aid Battery Care

  • Store hearing aid batteries at room temperature; cold or heat may reduce battery life.
  • Keep the tab on hearing aid batteries (zinc air) until you are ready to use them.
  • Always carry extra batteries with you. They will stay protected if you leave them in the pack or place them in a battery holder.
  • Do not mix loose batteries with metal objects like keys or coins; this may short circuit the batteries.
  • Keep all hearing aid batteries away from small children.
  • Never change hearing aid batteries in front of children or hold the battery between your teeth. Children will imitate adults and attempt to mimic this behavior.
  • If a battery is swallowed, call your family physician and the National Button Battery Ingestion Hot Line: (202) 625-3333.
